MicroVas Therapy, or Micro-Vascular Therapy, is a popular non-surgical pain-relief option for patients to encourage blood flow to the legs, feet and hands for patients suffering from neuropathy. This electrical stimulation therapy is geared toward patients with chronic numbness, tingling or pain caused by poor blood circulation that can develop from diabetes, chemotherapy, alcoholism or medicine side-effects. Prior to treatment, many patients have trouble walking or standing for long periods of time because their pain is so intense.
Our staff at Northeast Spine and Sports Medicine will perform a thorough exam using digital imaging, asking questions about your symptoms, and reviewing your medical records to determine if MicroVas treatment is right for you.
Once your doctor determines it’s a good choice, we’ll have you take a seat near our MicroVas machine, which is generally connected to your thigh, calf, ankle and/or foot for each treatment. This is a painless process that involves electrodes (attached via adhesives which look somewhat like bandages) which are themselves connected to leads (cords that send electrical stimulation from the machine to your body). Once you’re connected and comfortable, the device’s power is increased slowly, stimulating blood flow through the areas that need it most. Each MicroVas treatment typically lasts from 10-20 minutes, and most patients describe the process as painless. Some patients report a tingling session in their feet, which is normal due to increased blood circulation. Patients typically visit us a few times a week until symptoms improve, usually experiencing relief right around the fourth treatment session.

MicroVas therapy has shown great effectiveness in treating pain due to a variety of conditions, and has been particularly beneficial for numbness and pain in the lower extremities caused by diabetes. While results are not immediate, most patients report relief after several treatment sessions.
