Sitting Techniques: The 90º Rule

Dr. Lambros Lambrou May 04, 2016

Have you ever wondered how to sit with correct posture? Don't worry, you aren't the only one who has thought about this. Many people have pain that can be prevented. Let us show you how.

Dr. Victor Alfieri discusses the importance of sitting posture and a simple strategy that you can use throughout your everyday life to make sure you are sitting properly without having to think about it too much.

One scenario is for those who have been sitting at a computer for a long period of time. The head and shoulders tend to lean forward and the pelvis begins to tilt backwards forming a slouched position.

This causes none of the postural muscles to be engaged and the ligaments and spinal structures of the spine are more vulnerable to injuries such as rotator cuff problems and nervous system problems.

To help combat the ‘slouch’ and the injuries that can follow - remember to sit upright and at 90 degree angles throughout your entire body.

90º Body Check

  • 90 degree angle at your ear and shoulder
  • 90 degree angle at your hip and trunk
  • 90 degree angle at your upper and lower knee
  • 90 degree angle at your ankle and foot
