Michael Ra, DO

Michael Ra, DO, MPT is an ACGME accredited physician who is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as Pain Medicine. Dr. Ra is a highly skilled interventional physiatrist who treats patients with orthopedic concerns, non-surgically. His area of expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of various musculoskeletal issues involving the spine, as well as joint, muscle, and ligament issues in areas such as the knees, hips, and shoulders.   

Additionally, he offers interventional pain injections (epidurals, nerve blocks, steroid injections and radiofrequency ablations) as well as the coordination of care with physical therapy, chiropractic, and acupuncture treatments for his patients. Dr. Ra also performs electrodiagnostic nerve testing for those with suspected neuropathy. His interests also extend to regenerative medicine, such as Platelet Rich Plasma injections. These services are provided in our Tinton Falls, Manchester, and Jackson offices.  

After the completion of his medical studies, Dr. Ra completed his Internship at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania. Thereafter, he completed his three-year residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers-RWJ-JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute in New Jersey, which is also where he spent an additional year of specialization completing an ACGME accredited Fellowship in Pain Medicine. Prior to his medical endeavors, he received his Master in Physical Therapy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. This training has been invaluable at allowing him to practice an integrative and comprehensive approach to medicine. Additionally, he has co-authored the pain medicine and burn chapters in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Board Review 3rd Edition and presented posters at national meetings.   

He is an active member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Association of Academic Physiatrists, Spine Intervention Society, and the New Jersey Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation    Dr. Ra is a New Jersey native and his joy of sports has led him to this current area of medical practice. His wish is to be able to assist his patients in diminishing their pain, increasing their level of function, and returning to an active and healthy lifestyle.
