Training

Dr. Scheid is board-certified in neurosurgery with specialized training in spine surgery.

Dr. Scheid is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He has been an attending neurosurgeon for more than16 years.

Dr. Scheid specializes in microscopic, minimally invasive spine surgery and artificial disc replacement technology. His practice focuses on the treatment of spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, spondylolisthesis, and the management of spinal tumors. Over the course of his career, he has performed more than 6,000 successful surgeries.

Dr. Scheid has interest and extensive experience in caring for patients who have had prior spine surgery and are still experiencing pain and patients that have suffered injuries to their spinal column. He trained extensively in the field of neuromodulation and spinal cord stimulation for the treatment of chronic pain in patients who have failed conventional spine surgery or have been told they are not candidates for traditional spine surgery.

Dr. Scheid graduated with honors from John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH, where he received the Presidential Scholarship for Academic Achievement. He attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, graduating with honors as one of the top five students in a class of more than 230 graduates. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha and Hobart Amory Hare Medical Societies.

Dr. Scheid remained at Jefferson Hospital for his internship in general surgery and completed his residency in neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience. Dr. Scheid spent several years training at the Delaware Valley Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center, a national center of excellence for the treatment of spinal disorders, where he perfected techniques in spinal surgery and had the unique opportunity to learn from world-class neurosurgical and orthopedic spine surgeons.

Dr. Scheid’s research interest lies in improving the safety of spine surgery. He recently authored a landmark article explaining a new neuromonitoring protocol that improves outcomes in lateral access spine surgery in The Spine Journal.

Dr. Scheid is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, North American Spine Society, and American Medical Association.
