Neck & Spine
Whether as a result of injury or age, neck and spine injuries can have a debilitating effect on one's life, impacting everything they do throughout the day and night. One of the main reasons for this is because neck and spine pain is very likely to radiate to many other parts of the body, not just affecting the back or neck. For example, pain originating in the neck can cause severe headaches, while low back pain is likely to radiate to the hips or legs.
Back and neck conditions can originate from pinched or injured nerves, herniated discs, slipped discs, spinal stenosis, spinal infections, tumors, etc. The level of pain caused by these conditions can vary greatly by patients – some only experience mild pain while others have chronic, severe pain.
At Northeast Spine and Sports Medicine, we know that no two cases of neck or spine pain is the same, which is why we custom-tailor treatment plans for our individual patients according to their specific condition.
Knee & Leg
Knee and leg injuries are some of the most common that we see at our Point Pleasant and Jackson sports medicine centers. Because the knee is one of the largest and most used joints in the body, particularly in sports and exercise, it's one of the easiest areas to injure. Knee ligaments like the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), can be strained, torn, or snapped as a result of abrupt twisting, overextending, or blows to the knee. The meniscus tendon can also be easily torn or injured because of these activities.
Injuries to these tendons and ligaments can be extremely painful because it affects their ability to hold the knee joint in place properly. If you notice swelling, extreme, persistent pain, popping noises, or the inability to move the knee, you should contact a doctor immediately.
The medical specialists and physical therapist at Northeast Spine and Sports Medicine have years of experience in treating knee and leg injuries. If you have experienced a knee injury, contact us to find out about our integrated treatments.
Shoulder
Shoulder injuries are caused by straining, repetitive motions that affect the shoulder joint. While shoulder injuries are very common in athletes, it's also possible to experience shoulder injuries from everyday activities like cleaning, yard work, lifting heavy objects, etc. Sometimes these activities result in strained tendons or even a dislocated shoulder. In either situation, the supporting tendons will usually need care and therapy from a physician in order for it to heal properly and prevent pain in the future.
If you notice that you have trouble with full rotation of your shoulder, stiffness, or a lack of normal strength, you may be experiencing the result of a shoulder injury. Our sports medicine physicians and physical therapists can help diagnose your injury and treat it properly.
